The Castle of the Cockatrice

Kostener, hoping to rescue his friend Trovard Lefthristo, the true Count of Kra, from his flesh prison. Trovard is cursed to take the form of a bird-like beast. But Kostener and his two friends from the frontier, Pretefazer Young the Trail Ranger, and Saboro Begotten Arjiteg the savage woman, accompanied by the Count Lefthristo's distant cousins (the Gentlemen of Kra) encounter the culprits behind the curse, two children of the vile Circus Tartola, who commence to demonstrate their power by transforming the Gentlemen into beasts. Kostener puts up a hasty protective spell.
